My children are 2 and 5 and I've swerved the elf so far. Definitely from the 'elf is watching you' perspective, like you say, but also because I fear it would become yet another thing to do (and knowing me, I'd try to do perfectly 🙄) but do you know what, reading this has actually made me feel quite excited about the idea and less scared! Not this year as I feel a bit maxed out 😅 but in years to come I think I could be convinced! Your children are lucky to have this lovely magic ✨

Ahh I completely get this - I could never add something to December that made everyone feel monitored or more stressed 🙃

But honestly, doing it the way we do it (zero behaviour stuff, very low effort, maximum magic) has made it feel like a little pocket of joy rather than another task. Some years she barely “does” anything except arrive with PJs move from one shelf to another 😅

And you’re so right, you don’t have to be in that season yet. There will be a year where it suddenly feels fun instead of overwhelming, & that’s the year to do it.

Thank you for such a lovely comment - your children are lucky to have a Mum who is so thoughtful about what adds pressure vs what adds magic ✨
