Journal Club - June #1
Making Space
Welcome to Journal Club
Before we begin, you do not need a special setup, equipment or stationery set for Journal Club.
The best way to approach this is simply to make it work for your life as it is right now.
I used to be a journal-before-bed kind of person. These days, with three children and a life that feels full, I squeeze it in whenever I can.
Sometimes it’s ten quiet minutes while my younger two eat breakfast and before I attempt a quick morning stretch.
Sometimes it’s a stolen half hour at the weekend when I leave my husband in charge, take a coffee back to bed and disappear with my journal.
I’d love to tell you that I light a candle, sip peppermint tea and sit in the same cosy chair at the same time every day. Maybe one day.
For now, I journal when life allows, and that’s okay.
All you’ll need is somewhere private to record your thoughts. A notebook, journal, notes app or online document. Lined pages, unlined pages, beautiful stationery or the back of an old notebook. It genuinely doesn’t matter.
I prefer to write by hand and I tend to use two different colours of pen.
One colour for the prompt.
One colour for the response.
Somewhere along the way I realised it helps me separate the question from the answer.
Almost as if one part of me is asking, while another part is responding.
The calmer part. The wiser part.
The version of me that isn’t caught up in overthinking, self-doubt or the noise of everyday life.
If you get one thing from Journal Club, I hope it’s this: the opportunity to hear your own voice more clearly.
To uncover beliefs, desires, values and truths that may already be quietly guiding your life without you even realising it.
Each Sunday I’ll arrive in your inbox with a new Journal Club drop.
I’ll recap the monthly theme, introduce the week’s focus and share a series of prompts designed to help you explore it.
Along the way I’ll occasionally add extras such as visualisations, meditations, playlists, audio pep talks or examples from my own journal.
This month I’ve started with a 2 hour 15 minute playlist of vibey songs perfect for journalling your best life into reality. Scroll right to the bottom for the link.
June Journal Club: The Next Chapter
This month I’m using the milestone of turning 40 as an invitation to get intentional about the next chapter.
You may not be standing on the edge of a milestone birthday, but I think we all experience moments when we’re ready to pause, take stock and ask ourselves whether we’re living in alignment with the woman we want to be.
At the heart of this month’s Journal Club is a simple belief:
The things we want more of in our lives don’t appear by accident.
They grow from the energy, attention and intention we give them.
The relationships we nurture.
The thoughts we repeatedly think.
The things we consume.
The experiences we prioritise.
The way we spend an ordinary day.
Many of us spend so much time focused on what needs done next that we rarely stop to ask ourselves where we’re actually heading.
Who are we becoming through the small choices we’re making every day?
This isn’t a dramatic “new me” kind of journey, nor a life overhaul, a strict plan or a list of goals.
It is more about bringing intentionality back into our days through curiosity.
Who is the woman you want to be?
What does she wear?
How does she spend an ordinary Tuesday?
What does she think about when she’s driving alone in the car?
What does she give her attention to?
What does she quietly stop feeding?
What books sit on her bedside table?
What films does she watch?
What conversations energise her?
How does she care for her body?
Who are the people she wants more of in her life, and how does she make space for them?
What hobbies, interests and dreams deserve a bigger place in her days?
Whether you’re 28, 48 or 68, my hope is that these questions arrive at exactly the right time.
We will explore all of the above next week, so hold tight and read to the end before journalling.
